Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter finally! One question--in the local and regional Black Powder Shootouts, some clubs simply say "shoot your regular category, just use black in every gun." So, some of us have used/allowed '97's in the game, shot with black of course. Now, I know what "assume" can be broken down to, but let me ask the obvious question--will the EOT FCG category allow '97's? I am thinking not, doubles only, as any BP category has been in the past. Doc Johnson is mighty sorry to hear about this. Mule Camp was always one of the highlights of our year (http://docsmedicineshow.blogspot.com/2009/05/mule-camp-revisited.html). The effort you put into it was very much appreciated! We hope this isn't the last Mule Camp, just a temporary hiatus!

The "circle of safety" sounds really cool and wiz bang, however in my opinion it is another lame attempt to allow shooters to maintain lazy or negligent methods of behavior.

My first problem with the “circle of safety” is it is a cutesy little phrase for something that does NOT do what the proponents are claiming.

If you fire a round into the ground at a slight angle it can bounce back up in the same general direction it was fired in. if you fire a round 100% straight down there is no guarantee that it won’t bounce back up.

Because of ongoing litigation I have spent nearly all of my spare time for the last four months doing research into range design for court ordered improvements. In that time I have been in continuous contact with range operators around the country. One of my greatest resources has been the Range Technical Team Leader for the NRA.
In discussion last week he reiterated the NRA opinion that rounds fired onto a surface can deflect at an angle up to 40 degrees.

If we new for a certainty that ALL and I mean every round that might be fired was going to impact into nice soft rock free soil then this might be acceptable only if we are going to concede that we are going to accept less than safe behavior from our shooters.

In my opinion we need to hold ourselves to a higher level of safety for the good of all shooters no matter what the discipline, IDPA, Steel Challenge, CAS or what ever your chosen sport may be.

Therefore we need to be good ambassadors for all shooters and not create loopholes so that poor safety habits become acceptable.

One thing that I have learned that is a hard cold FACT, we as shooters are not the ones that are going to be deciding WHEN, WHERE, HOW or IF we conduct our shooting sports. It will be others that may or may not really care about our sport or the 2nd amendment.

This is a very un-safe move on behalf of SASS. That does the NRA have to say about the circle of safety? From what I hear on the East Coast all and or most of the SASS Clubs from the NE to Fl are voting NO on the Circle of Safety. Most of the shooters have said if SASS passes this rule they will not shoot any clubs that enforce the Circle of Safety. Bad move SASS
